artist/educator

I just finished one blissful week at the SAER (Summer Artist/Educator Residency) at Moore College where I was reminded of how interwoven making art and teaching art really are. I approach both with the spirit of play, experimentation, and collaboration. One of the highlights of the week was when I learned about the art of Joomchi (traditional Korean way of making textured handmade paper out of pieces of mulberry paper by using water). The process was so pleasing to me that I just kept making more and more. The feel of paper and water on the skin was refreshing and calming. Afterwards I scanned them, printed them out, and then used them as paper for monoprints.

What I would like to remember from this experience:

  1. Keep it fun
  2. Work with others
  3. Remember to pause and take stock
  4. Be open
